Side Sleepers
Side sleepers under 130 pounds rated the medium soft side highly and found it provided moderate contouring while relieving pressure points. We found that both sides appealed to side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. Side sleepers above 230 pounds found they experienced too much sinkage to feel supported on the medium soft side.
The firm side, however, performed well for side sleepers over 230 pounds. They found the firm surface offered light contouring and exceptional support. The inverse was true for our side sleepers under 130 pounds. They found the firm side a little too rigid, but the softer side eased pressure points on the hips and shoulders.
Side sleepers who prefer a deeper body hug may want to consider Saatva’s Memory Foam Hybrid, which features a plusher comfort system.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers on our testing team across all weight groups were comfortable on the firm side. The cover and zoned latex supported the lumbar region while cushioning the upper body and legs.
The medium soft side received mixed reviews from our back sleepers. Testers under 130 pounds experienced a balance of contouring and support. The softer surface compressed too much for back sleepers over 130 pounds, straining the lower back and spine. Back sleepers in this weight category found the firm side offered more support. Average-weight sleepers in particular found the firm side provided a firm and supportive surface.
Stomach Sleepers
Our stomach sleepers under 130 pounds gave the medium soft side average ratings. Stomach sleepers over 130 pounds found the softer surface yielded too much, causing the spine to curve excessively.
The firm surface provided moderate contouring and excellent support for average-weight stomach sleepers, helping to keep their hips and shoulders on an even plane. Pressure Relief

Zoned Dunlop latex alleviates tension by promoting proper spine alignment. The quilted cover is also zoned to cushion the lower back, and a wool comfort layer helps prevent pressure points.
With its closer contour, our testers noticed the medium soft side offered more pressure relief. The firm side was too rigid for our side sleepers under 130 pounds.
Temperature Neutrality

The cotton cover and wool fire barrier help regulate surface temperature by wicking away heat and moisture. Latex is naturally breathable, but the Zenhaven incorporates pincore holes in the latex that are designed to further enhance airflow. Since Dunlop latex is denser than Talalay latex, it doesn’t provide a deep body hug. Our testers found this helped prevent heat buildup.
Motion Isolation

Dunlop latex is very responsive, so our testers noticed some motion transfer on the Zenhaven. While disturbances were minimal during our partner tests, some sleepers may notice when their partner moves in bed, especially on the firmer and more responsive side. With a more conforming feel, the medium soft side absorbs more motion.
Edge Support

The density of Dunlop latex helps minimize deep sinkage along the edges. Most of our testers felt fully supported when sleeping or sitting on the sides of the bed. The firm surface has somewhat sturdier edge support since it compresses very little under the weight of sleepers. Co-sleepers and people over 230 pounds may experience more sagging on the medium soft side’s perimeter, especially as the mattress ages.

Dunlop latex tends to resist premature sagging more than most types of foam. Our testers estimate that the Zenhaven should perform optimally for about seven to eight years, which is typical of a high-quality latex mattress. Periodically flipping the mattress should also increase its lifespan by promoting even wear.

What Is the Zenhaven Mattress Made Of?
The Zenhaven Mattress has a soft and breathable organic cotton cover certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Zoned quilting delivers extra support to the lower back. The cover is treated with Guardin, a proprietary antimicrobial treatment.
GOTS-certified organic New Zealand wool doubles as a comfort layer and nontoxic fire barrier. Wool is allergen-resistant and naturally disperses heat and wicks away moisture. Comfort layers of natural Dunlop latex on each side of the mattress are arranged in five zones to promote spinal alignment. Tiny holes in the latex are designed to increase airflow.
The Dunlop latex comfort layer on the firm (7) side has an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 20 to 24. This makes the firm surface extra responsive. The latex on the medium soft (4) side has an ILD of 14 to 19, so it’s more conforming.
The shared support core uses two layers of Dunlop latex. The layer closer to the firm surface is firmer than the one near the medium soft side.
All of the latex undergoes a treatment to remove the proteins that typically trigger allergies. The mattress is eco-INSTITUT and GREENGUARD Gold certified, showing it meets strict guidelines for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). A Rainforest Alliance certification indicates that the latex was responsibly produced without harmful chemicals.
