Sleep Doctor’s Take: Titan Luxe Hybrid Mattress

The Titan Plus Luxe Mattress combines memory foam and low-gauge pocketed coils engineered for the needs of sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds. Its reinforced perimeter provides excellent edge support, while its breathable design effectively regulates temperature. We were also impressed with its durability and ease of movement, which make it a great choice for couples as well.

Titan Plus Luxe Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction

The Titan Plus Luxe is a hybrid mattress sold by Brooklyn Bedding, a well-known bedding manufacturer. The Titan Plus Luxe is an upgrade from the company’s Titan Plus mattress, offering a slightly softer surface, an added layer of transitional polyfoam, and a thicker layer of pocketed coils.

The Titan Plus Luxe combines memory foam and pocketed coils for a contouring yet resilient feel that we rate as medium firm (6) on our 10-point firmness scale. Its cover includes gel-infused memory foam engineered for a cooler sleep. For an additional fee, customers can opt for a sewn-in cover made with phase change material to further enhance temperature control.

We’ll discuss how the Titan Plus Luxe performed across the categories we reviewed during our in-house testing process, including pressure relief, edge support, and motion isolation. We’ll also cover the mattress’ construction, availability, and cost.

How We Review

Our team of testers uses a comprehensive methodology when testing and rating each mattress. These insights can help you decide what features are most important when choosing a mattress and if the Titan Plus Luxe fits your expectations.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Titan Luxe Hybrid?

The Titan Plus Luxe Hybrid Mattress balances softness and support. Layers of dense polyfoam and thick pocketed coils create a solid foundation, while the top layer of memory foam contours slightly to the body. This mattress’ medium firm (6) feel gives it a somewhat softer surface compared to the original Titan Plus.

The Titan Plus Luxe’s softer feel makes it a great fit for people who want a mattress that provides support for those over 230 pounds without feeling too firm. The Titan Plus Luxe also excels in edge support and durability, making it a great choice for couples.

Titan Plus Luxe Hybrid Mattress Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Gel-infused memory foam promotes temperature control
  • Performs well for couples and most sleepers over 130 pounds
  • Construction provides an even balance of support, contouring, and responsiveness

Cons

  • Probably too firm for side sleepers under 130 pounds
  • Stomach sleepers may need a firmer mattress with added support under the midsection
  • Additional fee for the optional cooling cover

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

Our testing team rated the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale. This means the mattress has a medium firm feel with mild contouring and little sinkage.

When looking for a mattress with the right balance of comfort and support, it’s important to consider both your sleep position and body weight.

We found that the Titan Plus Luxe performed best for our side sleepers over 230 pounds and our back sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. Most of our testers found the mattress comfortable and supportive regardless of sleep position and body weight. However, our side sleepers under 130 pounds reported that it was too firm for them.

Side Sleepers2/53/55/5
Back Sleepers3/55/53/5

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers often need extra cushioning around the hips and shoulders for proper spinal alignment. Our testers found that the Titan Plus Luxe offered excellent support for side sleepers over 230 pounds. Side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds found this mattress on par with other hybrids, while those under 130 pounds felt that the bed was too firm.

Back Sleepers

To reduce pressure points, back sleepers usually need a sturdy sleep surface that provides extra support near the hips and lower back. We determined that this mattress performed best for back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. Back sleepers over 230 pounds may prefer the firmer Titan Plus model.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a mattress that is firm enough to keep their spine aligned while providing proper cushioning for the hips, midsection, and shoulders. Our testers who sleep on their stomach found the Titan Plus Luxe about average for a hybrid mattress, offering slightly less support than the Titan Plus.

Our Performance Ratings

We use a 5-point scale to rate mattresses in a range of performance categories. A score of 5 denotes excellent performance, while a score of 1 means that the mattress performed poorly.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 3/5

As a medium firm (6) mattress with a layer of contouring memory foam, the Titan Luxe provides pressure relief on par with similarly designed hybrids. A mattress should relieve pressure points by cradling and supporting your body, especially at your shoulders, hips, and lower back. We found that the Titan Luxe provides enough cushion and support for most sleepers.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

During testing, the Titan Plus Luxe effectively regulated temperature and kept cooler than other mattresses that incorporate memory foam. We found that the combination of gel-infused memory foam and breathable pocketed coils helped prevent the mattress from retaining body heat. This means the Titan Plus Luxe is likely to be a good fit for hot sleepers.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 3/5

Our testers found that the Titan Plus Luxe does isolate some motion, thanks to its foam comfort layers. However, its support core consists of 8 inches of pocketed coils, which give the mattress a bit of a bounce. This means you may feel some of your bed partner’s movements as they shift positions or get out of bed.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

The support core in the Titan Plus Luxe includes a reinforced edge, helping the bed’s perimeter resist compression better than similar models. This makes it easier to sit on the mattress’ edge or get in and out of bed. For couples, enhanced edge support means a roomier sleep because more of the surface is stable and usable.

Durability

Rating: 4/5

The average lifespan of a hybrid mattress is about seven to eight years. Based on its high-quality materials and construction, we estimate that the Titan Luxe should last a little longer than other hybrids. However, keep in mind that a mattress’ lifespan depends on many factors, including proper care, amount of use, and your sleep position and body type.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 4/5

Our testing team found that the Titan Plus Luxe’s construction enables sleepers to easily move around the bed without sinking too deeply into the surface. Although the layer of memory foam does conform to the body, the layer of TitanFlex foam and the springy pocketed coils give the mattress a resilient surface. This makes it easier to change positions and get into or out of bed without feeling restricted.

Sex

Rating: 3/5

The Titan Luxe provides a responsive yet plush surface, making it a good mattress for sex. The pocketed coils and TitanFlex foam offer moderate bounce, while the gel-infused memory foam is designed to provide temperature control to help couples stay cool. A high level of edge support also allows partners to use the bed’s entire surface.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 3/5

Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that happens when a compressed mattress is unsealed after delivery. VOCs can have a distinct chemical-like odor, but they are generally not considered harmful. Place your Titan Plus Luxe in a well-ventilated space, and you should notice the smell dissipate fairly quickly.

What Is the Titan Luxe Hybrid Mattress Made Of?

The Titan Plus Luxe includes foam in the comfort system and pocketed coils in the support core. These layers are encased in a cotton blend cover quilted with gel-infused memory foam. For an additional fee, a cooling cover can be sewn in that uses a phase change material designed to help regulate body temperature.

The Titan Plus Luxe’s comfort system also includes 2 inches of TitanFlex polyfoam designed to provide pressure relief. This is followed by 1 inch of Energex foam, which functions as a transitional layer to separate the comfort layers from the support core.

An 8-inch layer of individually pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the bed’s support core. The final layer includes 1 inch of high-density polyfoam to add structure and stability.
