Sleep Doctor’s Take: Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress provides the advantages of quality memory foam without the common overheating problem associated with foam beds. With its durable materials, this mattress can provide pressure-relieving comfort for many years. However, its firmness options may not suit everyone, and its benefits come at a hefty price point.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress: An Introduction

Tempur-Pedic pioneered the memory foam mattress in the 90s, and the brand’s mattresses remain popular to this day. Their TEMPUR-breeze collection incorporates advanced cooling materials designed for the hot sleeper. This collection includes the TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress and the luxury TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress.

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress utilizes phase change material, a cool-to-the-touch cover, and ventilated memory foam, all of which are engineered to help maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. Available in two firmness options, this 13-inch luxury mattress can meet the needs of many different sleepers.

We review the LUXEbreeze’s construction, performance, and what it feels like to sleep on this mattress.

How We Review

Our team of sleep experts personally tests every mattress we review. The testing involves both objective and subjective assessments, allowing us to take advantage of technological tools and the feedback from a diverse group of sleepers. To help you find the mattress that best meets your needs, we provide an in-depth evaluation of how a mattress performed in a variety of important categories.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress?

With both soft (3) and firm (7) options available, the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress provides two significantly different experiences depending on which model you pick. The soft (3) LUXEbreeze feels plush and conforms deeply to your body shape, while the firm (7) version lightly contours the body with noticeably less sink.

The LUXEbreeze’s high quality memory foam materials are made to last, and the mattress demonstrated high-end motion isolation in our tests. The firm (7) option was most appealing to our testers who weigh over 130 pounds, while the soft (3) option was most comfortable for side sleepers under 130 pounds.

Like every mattress, the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze has benefits and drawbacks. Consider its pros and cons while deciding if the features of this mattress align with your own sleep preferences.

TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Memory foam provides very good pressure relief
  • Durable construction can outlast the average foam mattress
  • Great motion isolation

Cons

  • Soft firmness option is a poor fit for most sleepers over 130 pounds
  • Limited bounce may hinder movement and sex
  • May not provide optimal comfort to people who like medium firmness

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

On our 10-point firmness scale from extra soft (1) to extra firm (10), the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze’s two firmness options are rated 3 (soft) and 7 (firm). Whether you like a soft or firm mattress is a matter of personal preference, often influenced by your body weight and preferred sleeping position.

Our testing team represents a variety of body weights and sleeping positions to capture the range of experiences different people can have with the same mattress. Understanding this variability can help you choose the right mattress for you.

Side Sleepers

The LUXEbreeze’s contouring memory foam offers effective support for the hips and shoulders, which are major pressure points for most side sleepers. Our side sleepers under 130 pounds loved the soft (3) option, which was plush enough to comfortably cushion their body. Side sleepers over 130 pounds preferred the firm (7) option’s more robust feel, which permits less sinking into the mattress.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers in our tests generally preferred the firm (7) LUXEbreeze Mattress because it provided comfortable support to the lower back, keeping the spine in proper alignment. In fact, this model earned near perfect scores for back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. People under 130 pounds didn’t find the LUXEbreeze to have an optimal feel but still gave both the soft (3) and firm (7) versions a slightly above average rating.

Stomach Sleepers

Our stomach sleepers preferred the firm (7) LUXEbreeze Mattress, and those between 130 and 230 pounds gave it an excellent rating. They found it provided light cushioning without sagging or sinking. However, the soft (3) version was too plush for stomach sleepers, who need a bed that can support their midsection and keep the back from bending in a way that can lead to aches and pains.

Our Performance Ratings

Our testing team evaluated the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze in eight performance categories. We assign performance ratings on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 4/5 (Soft), 3/5 (Firm)

Tempur-Pedic’s deeply contouring memory foam very effectively relieves pressure around joints and other pain points. By cushioning pressure zones like the shoulders, lower back, and hips, the foam eases tension and promotes good spinal alignment. Our testers found that the soft (3) TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze offered particularly great pressure relief.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 3/5 (Soft), 4/5 (Firm)

Our testers found that the firm (7) version of the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze prevented heat buildup very well, allowing for a cool and comfortable sleep experience. All-foam mattresses tend to retain heat and block airflow around the body, but the LUXEbreeze contains cooling features like ventilated foam and phase change material designed to combat this effect. The soft (3) version feels slightly warmer because its foams hug the body more closely, restricting airflow.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 4/5

We found that both versions of the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze allowed very little motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other. The bed’s memory foam comfort layers conform closely to the body and regain their shape slowly when pressure is removed, effectively isolating most movements. With the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze, people who sleep with a partner, pet, or child are unlikely to be disturbed by movement on the other side of the bed.

Edge Support

Rating: 2/5 (Soft), 3/5 (Firm)

Like many all-foam mattresses, the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze is susceptible to compression and sagging around the outside of the bed. Our team found that the firm (7) option provided better edge support, which is important for people who sleep or sit near the edges of the mattress. The plush foams of the soft (3) mattress compress considerably when pressure is applied along the perimeter, leading to a lower rating for its edge support.

Durability

Rating: 4/5

All-foam mattresses tend to have a shorter lifespan than their hybrid or latex counterparts, but our team was impressed with the quality construction of Tempur-Pedic’s memory foam and polyfoam materials. We expect the mattress to last longer than the six to seven year lifespan of the average all-foam mattress. Factors like body weight and proper routine care can also impact how long a mattress will last.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 2/5 (Soft), 3/5 (Firm)

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze’s memory foams are slow to bounce back when pressure is removed, and this lack of bounce can be somewhat restrictive to movement on the mattress. On the soft (3) model, there is a greater risk of feeling stuck in the bed because of the deep hug of its foams. People who change positions frequently and those who have mobility concerns may prefer a more responsive mattress, but some sleepers may actually like this contouring feel. Our team reported that they had an easier time moving around on the firm (7) version compared to the soft (3) one.

Sex

Rating: 2/5

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze has very little bounce and limited ease of movement, which isn’t ideal for sex. This is a common drawback for all-foam mattresses, particularly those featuring soft, contouring memory foam. The soft (3) version of this mattress is particularly restrictive, and its weaker edge support gives sexual partners less space to easily use.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 2/5

Brand new foam mattresses are often associated with noticeable odors, and some may find these smells unpleasant. Tempur-Pedic’s foam materials are CertiPUR-US certified, and these safety standards help ensure that the off-gassing smells aren’t harmful. These odors are simply a byproduct of the manufacturing process and should go away within hours or days.

What Is the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress Made Of?

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze is an all-foam mattress with a memory foam comfort system and polyfoam support core. The memory foam layers contain TEMPUR-CM+ material and ventilated TEMPUR-APR material, both of which are designed to enhance airflow in the foam to keep it cooler.

The mattress’ cool-to-the-touch cover is made with a phase change material engineered to help wick away heat and moisture. All foams used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they have been evaluated by a third party to meet specific safety standards. The mattress is 13 inches in height, making it the highest profile option in the TEMPUR-breeze series of mattresses.

How Much Does the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress Cost?

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze’s luxury pricing reflects the durable materials and trusted quality of the Tempur-Pedic brand. This model is the most expensive mattress in the TEMPUR-breeze collection due to its thicker, ventilated memory foam layer.

An added perk included in the price is free White Glove delivery. With this service, Tempur-Pedic will send a team to deliver the mattress, install it in the room of your choice, and remove an old mattress and box spring.

Which Tempur-Pedic Mattress Is Right for You?

The TEMPUR-breeze series of mattresses includes the TEMPUR-PRObreeze and the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze. Unlike the LUXEbreeze, the PRObreeze offers a medium (5) firmness level ideal for people who like their bed somewhere between soft and firm. The PRObreeze is also available as a hybrid model, which combines memory foam comfort layers with a pocketed coil support core.

In addition to the TEMPUR-breeze collection, Tempur-Pedic offers two other series: TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-Adapt.

TEMPUR-Cloud, the company’s most affordable collection, has a medium (5) firmness level and comes in both all-foam and hybrid models. This feel is ideal for side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds. The TEMPUR-Cloud mattresses are compressed in a bag and shipped directly to customers, who can remove the packaging and set up the mattress in a matter of minutes.

The TEMPUR-Adapt collection offers a range of models with varying firmness options to accommodate different sleeping styles. The TEMPUR-Adapt series offers both all-foam and hybrid mattress options.

TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress FAQ

Is the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress Worth the Price?

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress has a luxury price-point, but it can be a solid investment for people who want a long-lasting, high-performance memory foam mattress with added cooling technology. It offers the greatest benefit to sleepers who love the feel and support of memory foam and prefer either a plush or firm level of firmness.

Which TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Firmness Is Better, Soft or Firm?

The firm (7) version of the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze had the broadest appeal among our testing team, but the soft (3) version was ideal for our side sleepers under 130 pounds. The choice between a soft and firm mattress will depend on your body type, sleeping position, and personal preferences.

How Are the PRObreeze and LUXEbreeze Models Different?

The PRObreeze doesn’t have a ventilated memory foam layer and measures 12 inches tall instead of 13. While the LUXEbreeze is available in soft (3) or firm (7) options, the PRObreeze is only offered in a medium (5) firmness level.

Do the Tempur-Pedic Mattresses Make You Feel Hot?

Compared to many memory foam mattresses, the Tempur-Pedic’s TEMPUR-breeze mattresses maintain a comfortable temperature at night. The firm (7) version of the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze received the best rating for temperature neutrality in our tests. We found that the soft (3) model was more likely to feel warm to people who tend to sleep hot.

Why Are Tempur-Pedic Mattresses So Popular?

Tempur-Pedic was the first company to create memory foam mattresses, and, since then, the company has gained a reputation for high-quality, comfortable mattresses. The company’s memory foams are known for exceptional pressure relief and motion isolation, and their durable materials tend to last longer than foams from many other brands.
